Prof. Jörg Hacker is a microbiologist. He was appointed Professor of Microbiology at the University of Würzburg in 1988 and headed the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology at the same university from 1993 on. He was Vice President of the German Research Foundation from 2003 to 2009 and President of the Robert Koch Institute from 2008 to 2010. Prof. Hacker has been President of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) since 2010, and he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon from 2014 to 2016.
He is a member of the steering committee of the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 and a member of the working group on the Global Commons.
